Cool Stuff Nigeria Saharan Africa

The place that I found the most interesting in Sub Saharan Africa is Nigeria. I've always loved the name and when I started doing research I continued to discover how beautiful it truly is. This place includes folk, pop music and different styles of folk music. Most of there music is passed down generation to generation and includes many different instruments. They are beautiful and creative people. The largest ethic groups are Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba. This is where most things where originated

I was fascinated by something that Nigeria are really the creators of works songs. Which would be used to pass down time in the fields. Or even simply the video we watched in class and found out that it was postal workers creating wonderful sounds to pass down time. Women would often have difficult patterns compared to men because they do more work and have rhythmic task such as pounding down white yams to make fufu. That is super cool that they are so talented and that something so catchy is so common and easy for them.

Another thing that I found super interesting is most music is call and response. You see this commonly in today's music or it's how artist communicate with there crowd. This is where a lead singer and the chorus interchanges voices. This also contains complex rhythms and melodic instruments. I have a video below that shows this. example. But something I found quite interesting about watching it is that you realize these people just make music. A lot of times that have no idea and time signature or key they just do what sounds get to them and it's that simple to them.

The last thing that caught my eye while discovering the Nigerian culture. It is there use of instruments and what they used then verses what we use now. The Yoruba people are well known for there drumming skills. An instrument you will find now and then is the dundun and the bata. With these instruments come with different style and rhythm you have to be heavily educated since the Nigerian people are so talented. The video below will explain more bu it truly motivated me to discover this part of Africa and there instruments.
